Here are the runners I have narrowed it down to that will have a good shot in the derby.
Lizard Island – Probably needs to be ridden a little quieter then he was last start, however drawing barrier 3 they probably won’t. He is definitely talented but I don’t think he will be finishing in the top 3 the way he tired last start.
Shards – I don’t get the indication that Shards is going to run out a strong 2500m but with Hugh Bomwan the Derby king in the saddle he will get as good a crack at possible.
Kia Ora Kouto – The smokey from out west, this is his latest trial and this is his latest race. That last race was against older horses, he’s undefeated and has been smacking any horse that races against him. He has a very good staying pedigree and Adam Durrant has won just about every race you can in the west. It’s very hard to line the form lines up here but for $9 he looks a worthy of a decent saver bet and quinella proposition.
Man Of Choice – Bit of a forgotten horse here has great form coming into this, Vanbrugh if he were in the field would be very short and Man Of Choice wasn’t to far behind. MOC also gave Jadeer a walloping who went and ran 2nd in the Geelong Classic a historical lead up race. Barrier 16 isn’t ideal but if they ride him cold it might not be the worst thing , should have good fitness about him and don’t be surprised if he runs a good race. He will be getting back and wide and storming down the outside which with the Northerly wind forecast will help him, I’m getting more keen on this horse as we get closer to the race. Get something on him at the 21s!!
Tarzino – Moonee Valley G2 Vase last time he was simply outstanding. Got back to last on a day where the inside lane on the pace was dynamite. Then swooped down the outside which no horse could do all day, finished third yet 100m past the post was two lengths in front off the winner. Before that he was great making ground in the Caulfield Guineas he never saw daylight and this has been the goal all along. This horse is crying out for the derby and is a deserved favourite. The $2.25 is a little hard to stomach so I hope you got on a little earlier.
Etymology – Hit the line very well in what I believe will be a good form race. James Mcdonald as always riding in great form, barrier 9 will suit him to a tee. There are worse chances in this race to put your hard eared on.
Get The Picture – Really caught the eye flashing home late behind Sacred Eye. Oliver gets on board and should really get the distance. One for the exotics
My Staking Plan
Man Of Choice $21 – $18 Win
Man Of Choice $5.50 – $72 Place
Kia Ora Koutou $8 – $50 Win
Tarzino $2.50 – $160 Win
Should make about $100 Profit if one of the selection gets up double if Man Of Choice Wins
Quinella 3,5,7,8 – 10x = $60
